Word Card Clusters

This happened yesterday. I just didn't get around to blogging it.

These are all sub clusters of Dooms, which I found particularly interesting.

Monkey Madness

This is a cooky trendy site for people who like monkeys and apes. There's lotsa furry stuff too and I couldn't even begin to explain all the features within but suffice to say it is possibly one of the best sites for features we have ever had. There's even a whole section devoted to the teachings of martial arts so obviously they get my vote. But Double M is a great social networking site even if you're not a fan of monkeys and has enough kit so you will never be bored. I dare to say it may even be a rival of its own hub i.e. us.

Carnie

This is a site for fans of mammals from the carnivore family e.g. cats, dogs and weasels. There's lots of info on how to keep them as pets and a hell of alot more. There's a little furry vore subsection, which I am requested to mention by Doom's members, one in particular. There's stuff about training, competitions, diets, where to buy clothing, sports teams, team building exercises, tackling phobias, grooming salons, veterinary advice and many other things about pets. Wildlife footage (pics and vids) and non-wildlife documentaries including the Dog Wisperer, Meerkat Diaries, The Lion Man, etc. If you like this kinda thing like alot of people do then you'll like this site.

Herptopia

As you can guess, this is a site for fans of reptiles and amphibians. There's wildlife and pet info, pics and vids but that's pretty much it apart from one strange game where you play as Yoshi and have to catch flies with your tongue. It's nothing special so there's not much to say except I'd advise you to click on chameleon when you see it. You'll get a pleasant surprise.

Rabbiteres

This oddly named cluster is dedicated to small mammals like rabbits, rodents, etc. It's nice and friendly and quite upbeat. There's lots stuff for kids and parents including a site webcomic blog, a post your artwork section and a photos and vids sections that has a whole Lolpets subcategory. There's also lots of crazy games like cat sledging and a thing where you can make pictures using stickers and stuff. It's got a chatroom and forum and a little customizable page that comes with your account. All round, it's good clean fun and a great place for lighthearted folk. Makes a change from the usual then.

Cravin Grazin

This is for fans of hoofed mammals i.e. horses, sheep, pigs, etc. but it also has camels, rhino and elephants. Lots of stuff to do with farming and, despite its happy feel, covers adult topics like birth, manure, mating and euthanasia. It's an O-K site. There's some pics, a forum, some games, but it's not too big and there's not much to do other than talk to each other. Now, I know that is enough for most people but I'd like something more substantial.

Cetacia

Dedicated to dolphins, whales, walrus, etc. and for some reason sharks and rays too. Now this site I like. It looks nice and fresh and has lots of things to keep you occupied, including games, picture galleries, documentaries about the sea, little bits of info that pop up in a box in the corner, cartoony characters all over the place, quizes, a forum, a chatroom, a member blog, a pet you can look after, the list just goes on and on. It's the kinda site you would get bored with if you stayed on it all day but is great fun to visit daily.

Ant's Nest

I was going to muse at the irony of the fact that the owner of a site about insects is named Ant, until I found out it was in fact the name of the mascot. Regardless, the site was lighthearted, pretty and fresh but didn't really have anything to offer. There was 1 game and a forum, and the forum was about the game. So what, the game was quite big for a Flash game but nothing special. It's not like it was Second Life or even Gaia Online. It was just a Flash game. So yeah, it looked good but failed to deliver in my opinion. Thumbs down.

Pincer Folk

This is dedicated to Arthropods but not insects and similar critters. There's a few games but they don't get boring at all. You could play them all day, they're very addictive and every so often the game changes into something different. By the time you have played every game in every game you've probably played 200 different games in total. Besides that there are lots of social networking things like a personal webpage, gallery and blog, a system where you can post messages to other people's walls, email, which I'm surprised most of the others don't have, an online bookmarking feature, an organizer and a friends list, so yeah, I liked this one.

Spider's Web

This surprised me. Well, for a start, the title is misleading. The site is for all spinners of silk and not just spiders. There's actually loads of games that are very different to the tired old standards and some social networking gadgets and gizmos like an organizer, a tree of friends and a little critter that jumps up and down when something happens, much like the paperclip in MS Office but much less annoying. The games are definitely the major deal with this one and it pulls it off beautifully.

True Naga

True Naga is site for people who like the limbless critters of the planet, that includes eels, snakes, worms, slugs, etc. It's actually a pretty OK site but for the theme. There's plenty of trinket features like customizable electronic greetings cards and postcards as well as the standard info, games, pics, vids, etc. but for me it just looks a little samey. Fine, nature, I get it, but there's no wow for me. So if you're obsessed with this kinda thing, then go here you'll enjoy it, but if, like me, you passion for a bit more variety, then steer clear.

The Bird House

As you imagine, a site about birds. Lots of info and pics but nothing else, other than a little scrolling shooter thing. Cool for five seconds and then gone again. No social substance to tie me in so I'm out.

Ipthio

You'd probably have to know your stuff to know this is a site about fish and to be honest you're not missing much. Yes it looks nice but it has only a picture gallery that only admins can add to and some info for you to read. That's it pretty much apart from a cool thing you can download to put an aquarium on your wallpaper, and no, I don't mean that crap that gets advertised all over. Nice if you wanna look at fish pics and read about fish, but I would prefer some sort of social features or games.

Growth

When I read this site's title I had horrible images of disease and I was half right. Growth is a site about plants, fungi and diseases. Lots of info and stuff, as well as some nice pics, but, other than a forum, this site has no social thingies, so, for me, I'm out. It looks really pretty and I'm sure gardeners would be interested in the info but there's no practicality to it. Why would anyone want to go there other than to get a few pics and leave. No pun intended.

Molluscans Unite

As you can guess this site is about invertebrates, but not just mollusks as the name would suggest. It's a pretty cool, if disgusting, looking site. There's not much to do in terms of activities but the activities are very expansive. For a start, there's a little snail thing where you make progress by posting in the forums. The more gold stars you are awarded by people giving your posts a high score, the more the plucky little snail travels toward the cabbage at the goal. There's a feature where you make music by blowing into conch shells and a thing where you have to find the hidden octopus. There's even a thing where you can battle two critters against each other. All in all, this site is good fun but if your squeamish of bugs then I suggest you go elsewhere.

Word Card

Now, the reason I've gathered these together is that they are all subs of a cluster called Word Card. Now, Word Card is a game where you each get a card and on this card is an animal. The cards work by a system of the food chain, where each player tests their card against the next player and if you get the predator then you beat the guy who gets the prey, much like the Janken game I was gonna make. If you beat someone, you get a point, but if you are beaten, you have to remove your card and get a new one before you compare your card with anyone-else. The card you remove is out of the game and the game ends when all the spare cards have been used and the turn is over. The winner at the end of the game is the person with the most points. If more than one person has the same points, the cards are shuffled and each gets a random card, which they then fight against each other. Repeat this until one person wins. The cards have to be picked from one particular chain and cannot allow any branching of the chain. Obviously, as there are multiple cards of that chain, two people can get the same card. When this happens, both have to take their cards out of the game and get a new card before comparing any more cards. The great part about that rule is that, even if you think you've got a great card, you can lose it if someone else also does. The points you get in a match are added to your overall points and you can bet some of these points in a match. Nobody else has to if you do but they still get the winnings even if they don't. Every time you get more points than someone-else, your rank increases, and every time someone deletes their account, their points are added as bonuses to new members games. There are also other card games other than animal, but they all form the same basic idea. It's lots of fun, I know 'cause I've tried it.
