Why we no longer have marathons(?)

the reason

I was thinking about the good old days and thought "Why don't we (Doomsday) have marathons anymore?". Well, marathons happened once in a blue moon when we'd all get together and do stuff. Back then we had alot of infrequent members and a marathon was really just an excuse for us to force them to pull their finger out and knuckle down on something cool. Then we got alot more regular members that would post stuff all the time and whenever we did a marathon they would just post everything they already did again. So to stop this happening we made Theme Thursday and The Burn.

Theme Thursday was basically a day of the week where we had to post all we could make and find that fit within a certain theme. TT worked pretty well but then as people started making their own sites and linking them to us, mainly when Dooms started, there was enough sites to cover every possible theme. That is of course if you don't get too specific. If the theme became too specified then not everyone would be able to contribute and so it would ruin what TT was about.

The Burn was where members would post all the things they'd seen throughout the week. For every new find they were awarded points that could be used on games and other features. The Burn continues to work and now it is part of the Doomsday database so anyone can find your site in our search.

So the reason there are no marathons any more is because the clusters, the subs, the Doomsday search engine and The Burn all do the same job. So don't feel sad that there's no marathons anymoe. Instead think of all the things that can now be done with the Empire as a whole.

Have fun, play safe and remember...

ROCK ON!

- Peace Out <(-v-)v
